Socket Jumper is an independent digital magazine covering car culture in Bangladesh and internationally. For the purposes of data-protection law, Socket Jumper is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy — meaning we decide what is collected and why.

We keep collection deliberately narrow. There is no account system, no advertising network, and no user profiling on this site.

• Newsletter details. Your email address, and your first name only if you choose to enter it. The first-name field is optional and the newsletter works without it.
• Signup context. Which part of the site a subscription came from (for example the homepage prompt or the end of an article), so we understand which placements are useful.
• Anti-abuse data. When you submit the newsletter or contact form, our server briefly holds your IP address in memory to rate-limit submissions, and checks that your email domain can actually receive mail. IP addresses used for rate limiting are held only transiently, are not written to a database, and are not linked to your subscription or message.
• Messages you send us. If you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, message, selected inquiry type, and any company, working headline, or article/photo link you choose to provide. We hold that correspondence so we can acknowledge and reply to it.

We do not collect special-category data (such as health, political opinions, or biometrics), and we ask that you do not send it to us.

We use the information above only to:

• send the welcome email you requested when subscribing;
• send alerts when a new article or issue publishes;
• keep the newsletter list accurate and deliverable, including honouring unsubscribes and recording bounces;
• protect the signup form from spam and automated abuse;
• protect the contact form from spam and automated abuse;
• acknowledge and respond to messages you send us.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not rent or share it for anyone else's marketing, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for sending newsletter emails. You give it by subscribing and can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing, without affecting the lawfulness of what we sent beforehand.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) for keeping the forms secure against spam and abuse, maintaining basic delivery quality, and receiving, acknowledging, and responding to contact inquiries. We have balanced this against your rights and limited it to the minimum data needed.
• Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) where we must retain suppression records to prove we respected an opt-out.

Socket Jumper does not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party trackers on this site. We do not run Google Analytics or any comparable product, and we do not fingerprint visitors.

The site stores a small amount of data in your browser's local storage purely to remember whether you have already been shown the newsletter prompt and whether you have subscribed, so we do not interrupt you repeatedly. This never leaves your device, is not readable by us, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Emails delivered through Brevo, including newsletter messages and contact receipts, may contain standard open and click measurement. You can prevent open tracking by disabling remote images in your email client; newsletter measurement also stops when you unsubscribe.

We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our instructions, under contract, and only for the purposes described here:

• Brevo — stores newsletter contacts and delivers newsletter and contact email. Brevo acts as our processor for these email services.
• Vercel — hosts the website and serves it to your browser. Standard server logs are generated as part of delivering any website.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or where necessary to establish or defend legal claims. If Socket Jumper is ever transferred to new ownership, we will tell subscribers before their information moves and preserve the choices they have already made.

Socket Jumper operates from Bangladesh and uses providers that operate internationally, so your information may be processed outside your own country — including in the European Union and the United States.

Where information is transferred out of the EU/UK, our providers rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You may request more detail about the safeguards applied by contacting us.

We keep newsletter details for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we remove you from the active sending list and keep a minimal suppression record — typically just your email address — so that we do not accidentally email you again. That record is kept for as long as we operate the newsletter.

Rate-limiting data is transient and cleared automatically within minutes. Contact correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle the matter it concerns. Brevo also holds transactional delivery logs and email previews according to the retention configured in our Brevo account; those records may remain until they are deleted where no shorter account retention period is active.

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:

• access a copy of the information we hold about you;
• correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
• delete your information;
• restrict or object to how we process it;
• receive your information in a portable, machine-readable format;
• withdraw consent at any time;
• opt out of marketing email — always available through the unsubscribe link in every newsletter email we send.

To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month. We will not charge you for making a request, and we will never penalise you or degrade the site for exercising a privacy right.

If you are in the EU, UK, or another region with a data-protection authority, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local regulator. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.

The site is served entirely over HTTPS. Brevo credentials are held as server-side environment variables and are never exposed to your browser. The newsletter and contact endpoints validate input, enforce rate limits, reject cross-origin submissions, and use hidden honeypot fields to filter automated spam. Contact-form content is escaped before it is inserted into email HTML.

No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach ever affects your personal information and poses a risk to you, we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.

Socket Jumper is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we will delete the record promptly.

We may update this policy as the site evolves. The “last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version. If we make a material change to how we handle personal information, we will give subscribers notice by email before it takes effect.
